Abstract

Context: It is know that cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is na early warning of cervical cancer and precocious identification of theselesions indicates a favorable prognosis. Around 20% evolve towards a more serious CIN, yet the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) is the main riskfactor. Nowadays, a semestral Papanicolaou smear (Pap) follow-up is carried out, during a period of two years; and when there is anymodification, a more detailed inquiry is performed. Objective: The aim of this study is to recommend a new following to CIN with colposcope, eradicating HPV. Methods: A clinical study in a private clinic in Pelotas – RS was carried out in patients who presented a suggestive Pap smearwith HPV and negative colposcope. All the 68 patients were put through three uterine cervix applications with trichloracetic acid 85% (TAA85%) weekly and then reevaluated with a periodic Pap smear. Results: the age of the patients ranged from 18 to 55 years old, and the majorprevalence of CIN grade I was the most prevalent (66,2%), followed by the grade II (22%). After the treatment with TAA 85% only one patientdid not show some response on the Pap smear. Conclusion: It was verified that with this procedure a normalization of the Pap smear hasoccurred, thus enabling a better evolution of these lesions.
