Background: Condyloma acuminatum is currently the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD) of virai etiology. lts treatrnent is nonspecific and consists of destruction of the involved site. The clinicai characteristics and extent of the lesions. as well as the immune status of the patient, are determinant factors for a successful treatrnent. Objectlves: To determine the response to some treatment options available in Brazil among HIV+ and HIV - women. Methodology: We studied 120 women with vulvar condylomatosis, HIV+ or not, divided at random into groups respectively receiving a 30% glycerinized podophyllin solution, a 70% aqueous solution of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and electrocoagulation. Data were analyzed statistically by the chi-square test and the chi-square partition test and the analysis was performed 30 days after the beginning of treatment. Results: The groups were similar in terms of variables such as age, color, smoking habit, time of disease evolution, number and sites of the lesions and HIV positivity. A cure was obtained in 44.44% of the patients treated with 1he podophyline solution, in 59.09% of the patients treated with TCA, and in 90% of the patients submitted to electrocoagulation. The response to treatrnent was worse among HIV + patients than HIV - patients in ali groups.
